HALO
INDENTITIES - BABEL PORTAL
This project was inspired by the stained glass of the church. The combination of the refraction and reflection of the stained glass and the reflection of the metal creates a light-like virtual portal to heaven, reflecting the inability of people to reach it, similar to the idea conveyed by the traditional Babylonian tower.
PORTAL‘S CONCEPT
Through research into the form of the Tower of Babylon and portal, a virtual portal based on stained glass material, formed by verticality and light, was identified to complete the design of the babel portal. The coloured light expresses the desire for access to heaven and uses the language of repetition in the design.
STAINED GLASS EXPERIMENT
The design is based on three key materials: metal, glass and paper. Then design the color of the glass to form a variety of color gradient of the gradient of the glass. And then you combine them, through color, reflection, refraction, to create a chaos, confused feeling of Babel. At the same time, the relationship between various colors and the stained glass of the church was used to create the concept of The Gate of God Babel.
In the model material test, three trigonal cones in different colour combinations are used as the main test for colour, light and reflection. The structure of the trigon not only reflects light in different ways, but also refracts it, forming the Gate of God through the refraction and reflection of light.
CONSTRUCTION DEVELOPMENT
The relationship between the upper and lower structures of the protal is modelled using, for example, straight cylinders to explore the relationship between the distance and size of the upper and lower structures, and the shape of the upper and lower structures in relation to the interaction behaviour of light and shadow and the human door on them.
HALO IMAGES
The images show how one can feel the different shades of light in the space as the time changes from day to night. At the same time as people's distance from the portal changes to people entering the portal, they feel the change of different light and shadow scales, giving different spatial sensations.
RELATIONS OF PEOPLE
The site chosen for the installation is in front of the staircase of the Colorado Lounge. This space is richly illuminated during the day, and people can experience this light space through the natural light coming in from outside. At the same time there are two levels of structure, so that different people can see different structures in the installation up and down the stairs. This is why HALO was chosen for this space.
HALO'S SECTION AND PLAN
The use of coloured paper to create a monolithic structure of stained glass, together with the use of light and shade, glass and reflective materials, simulates a 1:30 light HOLE portal in real life.
PHYSCIAL MODEL
HALO FILM
The use of solid models combined with projected light and shadow creates detailed light and shadow variations and a narrative of people within the space.
